Historic Oakwood: A Raleigh Neighborhood Driving Tour
Posted March of 2026
Historic Oakwood is one of Raleigh’s most desirable neighborhoods thanks to its central location, tree-lined streets, walkability, and well-preserved 19th century architecture. On a nice day it is common to see residents out for a walk, or groups of visitors touring the neighborhood during one of its many community events.
Its proximity to downtown also means residents can easily walk or bike to many of Raleigh’s major destinations, including Red Hat Amphitheater, the Raleigh Convention Center, and events on Fayetteville Street, Moore Square, or the Capital District.
With that said, showing is better than explaining.
Below is a driving tour through Historic Oakwood. It was filmed in February 2026 to give viewers a feel for what the neighborhood is like if they are considering moving to the area. I will also include some of the latest neighborhood statistics for buyers as a helpful planning resource.

Where Homes Closed (Recent Comps)
Count of sold homes by price band. This is a custom visualization built from the report’s distribution totals.
What This Suggests
- Inventory is limited (~2 months), which often supports stronger pricing and competition on well-positioned listings.
- Recent sales provide a baseline around $325/sqft. Homes priced materially above that typically need standout condition, updates, or a unique lot/location to justify a premium.
- With a 96-day median time on market, buyers may find negotiation opportunities on listings that sit—especially if pricing overshoots neighborhood expectations.
Note: neighborhood metrics can swing when the monthly sample is small. Use these as directional context, then evaluate each home based on condition, micro-location, layout, and recent comparable sales.
